Did Aggies catch a break with suspensions

NMSU is putting KC Ross-Miller front and center for what happened on Thursday. Fans believe he started a riot, the WAC commissioner described Ross-Miller as an instigator etc.

But look at the video again if you get a chance.

Assistant coach Paul Weir stepped between Ross-Miller and Utah Valley guard Holton Hunsaker after Ross-Miller threw the ball at Hunsaker. All of the Aggies players were near the bench and the NMSU coaching staff, but Daniel Mullings turned back and ran back into the fray for what looked to be defense of DK Eldridge, who according to people I have spoken to, bumped into a fan, thought he was pushed. After that, Renaldo Dixon's one-game suspension is probably just as he was coming to the defense of Mullings, but I believe Mullings and Eldridge were lucky to be able to play tonight at Bakersfield.

I think the WAC needs to educate all of the new schools on security on the court, and or, stop fans from coming to the court. But singling out Ross-Miller is far too easy.

It's called a "sucker-punch" for a reason.

RE: "singling out Ross-Miller is far too easy."

You, sir, are a moron; but you know that.

And you're ignorant.

Renaldo Dixon's "sucker punch" only occurred after the incident escalated to a point where that particular "sucker punch" was landed on a fan who had landed at least one "sucker punch" against Mullings.

I'm not suggesting that Ross Miller is an innocent bystander. But he was not alone in getting the incident to that stage

Jason, sincerely, I would like to understand what you are referring to. Please direct me to the video source and the frame count of the sucker punch from a fan. BTW, I was at the game and witnessed the entire disgusting display of poor sportsmanship. The first punch (one of only two thrown in the entire incident) was thrown off video by the NM player that took the ball out of bounds.

i believe the first poster was referring to the punch thrown by renaldo dixon, not a fan

Again, the video source and the frame count. Can't do it, can you?

Thank you Jason, Again for TELLING IT LIKE IT IS! I saw the particular video you refer to and thought, this is the kind of guy I want with me, watching my back. What the Utah Valley fan did was terrible and cheap. Renaldo took a hell of a risk, and paid for it, Renaldo, you are a friend for life in Aggie-ville!

Jason, let's create a standard on these boards of keeping things cordial...name calling can be left out. It is so demeaning.

Please, let us create some standards we all agree to...then we can agree and disagree all we want without the conversation becoming ugly.

I will be happy to write a simple draft if you wish

Jason and company,

I am disappointed by the lack of civility on this blog.

I appreciate that it has been an emotional week but that is no excuse for the name calling.

If we are to hold Ross-Miller to a standard of not reacting to his emotions, shouldn't we do the same here with each other?

For me, I am a busy guy and don't wish to waste time in places that don't feed my inspiration, imagination and sense of community.

I have asked several times for a simple community communications guidelines statement. I want simple things like no name calling and no insulting other posters' intelligence. Respect is the key word here.

That has not happened.

Now I see, Jason, that you too are getting into the grade school game of name calling.

So that is for me the final straw. If I don't hear back from you that we can create a list of guidelines about our communication, I am choosing to vacate this blog and put my time elsewhere.

That would be sad because I enjoy your entries and the conversations and opinions including the ones I don't agree with.

Alan I wouldnt mind reading over a set of guidelines. What I don't want to discourage in a market this size is people posting on the blog. While I prefer folks leaving a name to go with their comment, I have and will always want to post the anon comments. My email is jgroves@lcsun-news.com and I appreciate the offer.

Great....I will send some things over for your consideration...they will be basic stuff we learned in grade school...stuff like play nice...spelled out clearly.

Jason,
The blog column is really really great, it is not in need of any rules especially when in one breath we are publicly demanding one mans job, then a minute later complaining because everyone isn't polite about our opinion. There is a reason blogs are anonymous. Alan and Chaz L. want everyone to give their names, that would be a serious breach of privacy and open the blog and the persons name (assuming it is the persons real name) to all sorts of abuse. Just give your opinions if you like, then thicken up a bit if you get razzed in the process. If you can give it, you got to be able to take it too. Join a fantasy league if you want to have your own team. Keep the lines open Jason, you keep us connected and very well informed to Aggie-Land where ever we are.

Anon 11:17,

I *never* requested people give their names. Not true. I want everyone here to stop the silly calling each other names! Meaning, if you say I am stupid, you are calling me a name. That to me is just unacceptable discourse and I won't have it.

For me it is appropriate and correct to discuss openly the Aggies performance and openly meditate on how to improve things. Part of that includes thoughts about changing starting lineups, defensive schemes, offensive schemes, substitution patterns, who we recruit and yes also who our coach should be and who our AD should be.

These are public figures and they are presumably not here chatting with us. If they are, they can identify themselves and we can ask them lots and lots of questions and give lots and lots of feedback.

Of course you are entitled to your own view on things. But if I start attacking you as a person, I lose the benefit of your view. Thus the guidelines!

one other thing, 11:17,

I do agree about the: 'Just give your opinions if you like, then thicken up a bit if you get razzed in the process. If you can give it, you got to be able to take it too. ' But it just gets boring to me when people resort to name calling instead of using logic and reasoning to state their opinion. You can even have an opinion that is purely emotional. In fact that is a large part of what it means to be a sports fan, but don't put other people down for their views. I like creative conversation. At some point I take my attention where it is creative.

Abusive conversation takes the oxygen out of the room and turns everybody against each other.

You can have it if you want.

I don't want it.
