Utah State

If Utah State wins tonight against La. Tech, I'll submit and say that they will probably win the WAC.

Do I think they will win? Yes. They have the best home court in the league. I'm not going to say that they are the better team going in though. There are two teams that expose Utah State's lack of athleticism. La. Tech and NMSU. Fortunately, Utah State swept Nevada and have those two teams in Logan.

I know that basketball is more than athletes, but past Utah State teams have had that one go-to guy in Wilkinson and Carroll who could score at will pretty much. They don't have that this year. Wesley is a nice player but he's not a go-to guy. Eventually they will be exposed. It's already happened twice and the UtAgs have both those teams on their remaining schedule starting with tonight.

Utah State is the most disciplined team in the WAC. The most talented is NMSU, top to bottom. It'll be interesting to see if discipline outdoes talent.

I agree. I think Utah State will win the WAC championship, but that's why the game is played.

We'll see if the Aggies can remained focus for their remaining games. One can hope.

A disciplined team will always beat a bunch of talented individuals.

I say the Utags win the both the regular WAC season and tourney.

NMSU will be watching the NCAA tournament and NIT at the Game Bar & Grill.

Well the won tonight but I dont think that necessarily means they will win the WAC. Unless you meant that they will take the first seed which they should at this point. They had to go to overtime to beat Nevada and I can only imagine how much difficult it would be to beat them in the tournament on their home court. They did lose to La Tech by 22, granted that was before they went on this nice win streak but La Tech gave them a fight tonight. On a neutral court it should be a pretty good game. I think that we can beat Utah St. if we face them in the tournament. I dont think they are a lock to win the WAC as long as these four teams move on to the semis.

Well, the UtAgs beat LaTech.
I think NMSU as a chance but they need to play as a TEAM for 40 minutes the rest of the season.

If they play like a bunch of indviduals they will be the WAC runner up.
And everyone knows, no one ever remember who finishes second.

Let's see how Menzies and the team respond.

I watched the game lastnight and a couple of posters have hit it on the head. Utah State's discipline is the reason they are in the position they are in. But it's right there if you are a NMSU fan. If NMSU can play smart and keep it close late, I think they can pull it out because La. Tech had its chances.

For example, Magnum Rolle commits two fouls 30 feet from the basket!! I like when teams use a big man with length at the top of a halfcourt trap, but not if he's going to foul.

To make matters worse, Rolle fails to block Bendall out on a missed free throw down by two. Amazing.

Another thing that stood out to me is Pooh Williams. He doesn't do anything great, but he does a lot of little things well. Kind of like their entire team. He's the only one athletic enough to get his own shot, and he put them on his back down the stretch.

We need to make sure we get the 2 seed in the WAC tourny.

The Aggies would certainly be better served to be on the other side of the bracket than Nevada is on. I think the Aggies matchup better against LaTech. I also think that whoever plays Nevada at home is going to have to play as hard as they can for the entire game to overcome the home court advantage.

What homecourt advantage does Nevada have? Fans aren't coming out to watch them play.

Well rook, here's what that advantage is:

1. The home team gets to sleep in their own beds.

2. They don't have to travel to get to the tournament

3. They know the court, know the rims

4. Oh yes, the fans...if the tournament was held in Las Cruces this year, even with the pathetic attendance we're seeing, don't you think the Pan Am would be rocking? You bet it would. You can also bet it will be for the Nevada team during the tournament.

I'd say that the above is an advantage to the "home" team.

Magnum Rolle was left near the end of the game standing flat footed under the basket while shorter Utah State players jumped over him and got rebounds. Kinda reminded me of a "big man" that we aggie fans know well.

No they don't. They sleep in a hotel like everyone else.

2. They don't have to travel to get to the tournament.

Every team will have enough time to adjust by the time the tourney starts on Wednesday.

3. They know the court, know the rims.

This is hardly a valid point

I was in Reno last year. The students provided some energy, but overall, USU had taken over the place

So old wise veteran. I again ask, what home court advantage?

Coyote you are a piece of work. When ever analyst of the stats show Rahman is a KEY to our success you still take a swipe at him. BTW, Rolle took a forearm to the back on that rebound and a foul should have been called.

In Rolle's defense, he played 37 minutes in that game. That team starts 4 guards and none of them had more minutes.

He looked a little gassed in the last 5 minutes.

Coyote, you cannot be serious.

a.) Bendall got away with a Grade-A forearm shiver on that rebound

b.) If you're dissing on Rahman and his boardwork, you should know that he's the 13th best offensive rebounder in the entire nation, and in the top 50 for total rebounds.

I don't think it makes any difference what seed the Aggies have. Yes, it would be nice to be the 1 or 2 but realistically there are 7 teams that could win the WAC tourney. The only teams I leave out is Hawaii and Boise state. Each team has some strengths and weaknesses and look at how close each game has been in the WAC for the past month or so. You're fooling yourself if you say we matchup well with one team or the other. The mindset is and should be win 3 games in the tourney. Getting to the finals really doesn't do that much unless it possibly means an NIT bid.

jb, could you provide a link where we can find those truly amazing statistics?
