Aggies win at Pacific

I really don't have much to say.

If I had one gripe, if the Aggies guard Young at all, NMSU wins by 20. That leads me to my second point. The better team won tonight. My opinion is if the Aggies are a tournament team or a WAC champion team, they take care of these next two games against Idaho and Boise State no problem, which would make the last weekend pretty interesting.

Congrats to the Aggies on the game. The win tonight was nice, but a little frustrating at the same time.

Not trying to be a downer, and I’m very happy the Aggies won, but this should have been a 20 point-going away win with the Aggie subs getting some playing time in the last two minutes. In away games against Nevada and Utah State, those lapses going into the stretch will result in losses.

I'm hoping the team steps up and plays to their potential. If the Aggies do, they will tie Utah State for the regular season conference championship and win the WAC tourney for a WAC bid.

Good win against a defensive minded team.
I think this will go a long way in taking care of business the last four games and in the WAC tourney.

Go Aggies!

This message is for coyote who is too blind or dumb to realize Rahman is a beast for our team. Just google search NCAA basketball stats, and search around and you'll find how he compares to the rest of the nation. He's now ranked 51st in the country in rebounds per game.

rahman is a beast but ever since gillenwater has come back his numbers have dropped off a bit

Anonymous said...

His numbers dropping is because we don't have to rely so heavily on him for mins. He had a solid game last night, but Troy was in the zone the 2nd half. Make no mistake about it though. We are going to need Rahman if we want to compete in the post season.

We absolutely need Rahman. It's not about his numbers per game. What's important is his production per minute played. Were gonna need Troy to close
games though because he makes his freethrows. Rahman does not.

Rahman is a beast and he proved on earlier in the season why he is the top big men in our league. So I really dont understand why his minutes are going down

The Scary part about Rahman?
He's only a sophomore!!!

What's hard to understand. The guy is 7'0" and he hasn't had a bonafide backup all season. His minutes have dropped since Troy returned because we now have the ability to rest him more often. This will pay off big especially in the WAC tourney when we will need our guys to be ready and rested. Troy's not playing in Hamidu's spot because he's better, he's playing in that spot so we can have two inside threats at center fresh the entire game. This wears down opponents when it comes to crunch time.

The question of The Gillenwater or Rahman is purely matchup driven, IMO. If you attended or watched the LaTech game, you saw future NBA pick Magnum Rolle have all kinds of trouble with Rahman's size inside, and watched LaTech quickly make up the deficit after Rahman fouled out. He is a huge problem for most of the undersized posts in our league.

He doesn't seem to fit visually with the rest of the hyperquick leapers we put on the court, but his rebounding and post O is essential to our future success.

Coyote where are you man?

This is from ESPN Rumor Central:

Ever since he became academically eligible for the 2009-10 season, New Mexico State's Troy Gillenwater has been one of the best sixth man in college basketball (along with K-State's Jamar Samuels and Clemson's Andre Young). The 6-foot-8 sophomore is averaging 15.6 ppg (in only 5 games) and has positioned the Aggies to compete with Utah State and Lousiana Tech (all winners in the weekend's BracketBuster series) for the WAC.

However, since he has only played five games, Gillenwater is not in the best shape for the season BUT probably has the freshest legs whenever he steps onto the court. "It's not where I want to be. I'm not in the shape that I want to be in," said Gillenwater.

Four games remain on the Aggies schedule, including the regular-season finale on the road against Utah State, but NMSU is right behind the aforementioned Aggies for first place. If NMSU can take down USU on the road and then win a few in the WAC tournament, we wonder if it's possible Gillenwater and Co. could see an NCAA at-large bid? NMSU's RPI is 66th in the nation and their SOS is 74th; keep in mind, this team lost 6 of their first 9 and then went on to win 14 of their next 17. True, they probably have to make the finals of the WAC (or win the WAC) to get a bid, but it's sure to say NMSU's turnaround from the beginning of the season is pretty amazing.

Oh, I was just letting you Anon's finish vomiting. You are giving your opinion, and repetition doesn't make it any more legitimate. I didn't mention any names, but it didn't take much time for you to decide who you think the shoe fits. I think Rahman is a fine young man and of course an asset to the team and I am not going to trash him here just to argue with an idiot like you. As far as Rahman being a beast, that depends on one's OPINION of what a beast is. In my opinion the real beast is Wendell. Rahman does play well at times and at times he stands flat-footed and watches when he should be rebounding. Maybe it is because he tires easily---that is not my problem---that is the coaches problem.

Anon 1:53pm, Actually, I was kind of treating you like I would an ex-wife---wait until you get over your hissy for me having a different opinion than you---and then wait until you really started missing me. It is really hartening how quickly you started missing me. Heck, if I had a wife like that I might be still married (LOL).

haha your opinion is weak and trumped by stats and facts coyote.

lol us anons...Like coyote is your real name? Get a clue man. Rahman is a sophomore. He's only going to get better. You said some nice things about him in this recent post. But you've trashed him in your other posts.

C'mon Groves!
There are people talking about the Aggies as an at-large team right now. I dont think it will happen but its something to talk about. Where's the posts at man? You cant be too busy in LC.

See Jason, Anon 2:01 is even starting to miss you too! Wait a while and see if he resorts to begging. Apparently he is bored and is missing having someone to argue with or disagree with. :) LOL

College Basketball Handicapping: Surprising Bubble Teams

New Mexico State (17-9, WAC) – On Dec. 15 UCLA beat this New Mexico State team, 100-68. Now, if you’ve watched UCLA play this year you know just how ridiculous it is to think of them scoring 100. At that point NMSU had also lost by 21 to UTEP, by 17 to New Mexico and by 32 at St. Mary’s. Ouch. Since then, NMSU is 14-3 SU and 10-4 ATS and is just a game-and-a-half out of first place in the WAC. And the reason that the Aggies were getting tooled on early was because they were without the services of two of their best players, and their two best forwards, Wendell McKinnes and Troy Gillenwater. That pair has returned and now this group is on a tear. They have home games against Idaho and Boise State next before tricky road games against Nevada and Utah State to close the year. If they happen to win out, and if the selection committee takes their early roster woes into consideration, and don’t be stunned to see this team’s name on the bubble in the next week or so.
