Aggies notes

6-8 Wing Remi Barry is enrolled at NMSU and taking classes, as you probably know. Since Robert Lumpkins left the program, the Aggies have a scholarship open, which would likely go to Barry if he is cleared in the upcoming weeks. If not, he would essentially redshirt this season and wouldn't be able to practice, similar to Lumpkins, Hamidu Rahman and Troy Gillenwater when they arrived in Las Cruces. If cleared either this year or next, Barry will immediately help the Aggies from everything I've read. He had some big names after him that seemed to be scared away by academics. ... A couple of scheduling notes. Two NMSU ESPNU/ESPN2 WAC games are Feb. 23 at San Jose State and March 2 at home against Utah State at 9 p.m. ... Former NMSU player Sam Lacey, as well as recent NBA players Damon Stoudamire and Bryon Russell will be in attendance for Marvin Menzies' Open Golf Tournament on Thursday at Picacho Hills. Contact Jack Hokkanen at (575) 541-4274 by Saturday at 5 p.m. if you are interested in registering.

About time Dumpkins stopped just taking up a valuable scholarship.

Anon 6:22, you are quick to make statements about Lumpkins but not about anyone else. Lumpkins is just taking up a valuable scholarship but it's ok to have student-athletes like Mckines and Gillenwater waste scholarships well by being ineligible?? Lumpkins helped this team in more than one ways (especially when it comes to APR) and, unlike your favorite stars, he actually took care of his business so show some respect.

LOL it's funny that so many of you speak without the even being close to being right. Lumpkins was not a scholarship player.

A completely unconfirmed guess based only on watching the team for the last couple years, including body language between timeouts, etc.; Lump was one of JY's best friends on the team. They both have the Bmore/DC background. Without having to keep JY happy, we don't have to keep Lump around either. I appreciated his hustle and effort, but it did seem like he never really clicked with the team concept, and his hustle was not smart hustle. He is the only person in the gym who expected him to make any of the triples he shot. Best of luck to him at Rutgers.

It's not about having Lump around to keep JY happy. In fact, Lump was best friends with BJ and Hamidu more than with JY. Lump did what was best for him. He could have stayed for another year knowing all too well that more than likely he will see very limited or no play time at all. So he chose what was best for him--get his degree and go to another school for his last year of eligibility. No need to be bashful now when all Lump did was be a student-athlete. It didn't work out for him at NMSU but that's not a reason enough to say he was just taking up a valuable scholarship.

Any word on Daniel Mullings?

Anon 6:35, Lumpkins was a scholarship player. Get your facts straight before you start calling out other people for not being close to being right.

What I've heard about Mullings is that he will hopefully be enrolled later this week and sit the year out.
