Quick schedule note

A road game at St. Mary's could be added to the men's schedule. Hopefully the schedule would be released sometime next week. It's too bad if the Aggies would have to add another road game because everyone wants to play at home, but St. Mary's would be a nice addition I think, at least better than the teams that seem willing to come here

This is a good game for us against a solid team, from a very good basketball conference. It will also give some more exposure to our program in California--which we all know MM loves to recruit. We better win though. A loss here would not be good.

This is is a bad get!!!! If your going to start a home and home on the road shouldnt it be with a better quality conf and team? I know we can do better!!!

Are you really that stupid? St. Mary's was in the top 25 last year. They are a very good team. We are never going to get a home and home with a bigger school.

Patti Mills was the reason for them being do good. He is now in the NBA. So i bet my last dollar they wont be any good this year. So no I am not stupid, I know my facts. Yes a bigger school will play here but like Texas Tech ..... they have done it before for many years and iam sure if when the time is right they will do it again. Dont insult me till you know i am wrong!!!

Which St. Mary's are you referring to? There are many St. Mary's universities, there is one in Minnesota, Texas, California, Kansas, Maryland, Indiana just to name a few.

Type in Gaels and bball in your browser and you'll see who the Aggies might play. Bubble team last year. Actually should not have been but Gonzaga drubbed them late in the West Coast Conf. final. It was a closer game earlier than what the final score reflected with Patti Mills coming back. I was up watching the Deuce late that nite for some reason. Uh, also, don't forget they kicked the UTags behinds bad in their Bracket Buster match-up (kind of like how the Aggies were for most of the WAC chmshp game before refs became an issue). The NCAA was rewarded for giving the Gaels one of (if not the last)the last at-large bids with them beating Washington State and Davidson (Steph Curry only dropped 26 on 'em) before loosing to San Diego State in the Sweet 16. Should be good for the Aggie RPI and experience to get to play St. Mary's in their gym. Good work if you can land that one!

Anon @ 6:05. St Mary's kicked Utah State ass without Patty Mills.

Does that make them good? Last i checked they were a WAC school and the WAC only gets one bid to the NCAA. My point is lets be real and at least try a mountain west school or big 12. Like one of the other poster i think Texas Tech is a better get than St. Marys.

Whats up with the name calling are you like an E-bully? (Anon 6:05 PM)

Dude--first of all-SMU is in the WCC. Secondly, both them and Gonzaga were in the tourney last year, and both were in the top 25. And the year before that SMU GU, and USD all went (and San Diego advanced). It has clearly been a stronger conference than the WAC recently. This isn't a bad get, and would be considered a great "road win" in the selection committe's mind come March if the Aggies pull it off. Winning at that gym is tough to do. It seats about 3000 people, and is like playing at a high school. It's a diferent look than D-1 players are used to because the walls are very close to the basket.

St. Mary's is a WCC school, and one with a better recent (last 5 years) history than Texas Tech.

St. Mary's last 5 RPI ranks; 48, 36, 154, 122, 30

Tech's last 5 RPI ranks; 119, 68, 53, 136, 28.

SMC loses two of their best three players from last year, but are returning 3 seniors, including Omar Samhan, probably the best center we will face all year. SMC is probably the 3rd best team in our OOC schedule, after UCLA and UTEP.

Texas Tech would be nice as well, but as a Big XII member, don't have a lot of incentive to play an upper level WAC team that stands a good chance of beating them. They definitely aren't scheduling a home and home with such a school, which is what we need at this juncture.

Texas Tech is a team that say, a `UNM' would play. In fact I was in Albquerque last year and got to see the road game in Lubbock on TV. Remember watching with enormous, nah, lets use another word ... great satisfaction as what's his name, Jake Hoskvold (how do you spell it?) took the Lobos apart with treys from over by the scorer's table. Why are Aggies fans bickering here? Needs to be more LoBlows bashing on JG's blog. Marvin ain't going to play the Texas schools if there's some west coast school in potential recruiting grounds willing to play. TX has a lot of nothing inbetween each prospect. Just ask Henson about when he was tooling around in his Volkswagen scouting guys and his Hardin-Simmons days.

Yeah I was taking about Utah State being a WAC school!!!!! I know what fricken conference St. Marys is in!! And the WCC is still not as good as Big 12 or the MWC this is fact.

I'm well aware that the MWC and Big XII are better conferences than both the WCC and the WAC. However, the important thing is the specific strength of the team we're playing as opposed to conference affiliation. For example, using last year's RPI numbers, the MAAC is a decidedly mediocre conference, but playing either #20 Siena or #50 Niagara would be a bright spot in the schedule.

As the OOC currently stands, NMSU likely has one game against RPI top25 (UCLA) 2 games against RPI top50 (UTEP 2x)and 3 games against RPI top75 (UNM 2x, SMC), and perhaps one more against RPI top100 if one of our other mid-major opponents has a good season. I'm not sure this team can handle much more without its best frontcourt player.
