Menzies sticking around for now

LAS CRUCES — Multiple sources have confirmed that New Mexico State men’s head basketball coach Marvin Menzies has withdrawn his name from the list of candidates to become Colorado State’s next head coach.

Along the same lines, I wrote an email to Mike Martin because of the link to Menzies, and here is what he wrote back to me.

"Marvin is certainly a viable candidate as is Reggie Theus. In all likelihood we'll pursue a candidate or candidates with Louisiana connections. Several have been the subject of initial consideration.
We will probably resolve our coaching situation by early next week. I hope Marvin stays at NMSU but he will succeed wherever he goes."

Good.

Now he can resume his fund raising, coaching and recruiting responsibilities.

Crap!! That means another year of low attendance.

I'm very glad he's staying for now. Realistically he will probably move on in 3 years (for a better job than CSU) but at that point NMSU basketball will be "all the way back" and hopefully have a solid conference. I think this is actually the best decision for Menzies as well as NMSU in the long run. It'll be interesting to see what Boston promised him...

how about we help get rid of him instead. Boston can go with.

Good, now we can resume settling for a ho-hum coach.

He's not going anywhere....unfortunately for all us old Aggies who recognize real excitement in the program.

What a slap in the face to Kabango. He went to So. Miss. just to find out his coach left and went to CSU. HA HA Turn over king.

Hi Jason,

A suggestion: You should make a blog entry in which you announce that it is the slow season...it is obvious, I know, but it will create a completion for the blog until it fires back into action....I for one keep coming back on the blog only to see this same article about menzies sticking around as if the story is frozen in time....if you make a conclusion entry then your followers will get a sense that the absence is intentional and part of the plan.

Anyway, THANKS!

Alan

Glad to have MM back. I know we all have some sort of beef to pick with him, but big-picture wise, he has added value to the NMSU Basketball brand. That is what is most important to the school today.
We as alumni have high expectations for MM, and especially want to see higher moral behavior from players away from the court. Make it happen, MM and thanks for a great year!
