Another schedule upgrade

The Aggies 2010-11 schedule took a significant upgrade to an already solid schedule with the addition of Arizona in a home-and-home contract to start this season. I'm not sure on where or when this year's game will be, but this is a huge development for the university, which is always finding ways to A. increase the RPI of its non-conference schedule, which has been up and down through the years. B. More importantly, it should save on travel costs with U of A a five-hour bus trip away.

With this year's Texas Tech scrimmage at NMSU, perhaps the Aggies could add another regional opponent in the coming years. I know it's been a big goal of the administration and Pat Knight and Marvin Menzies each seemed open to the idea before the Aggies went to Lubbock last year.

It is showing the first game to be at Arizona on 11/18/10. That means we wont see Arizona in the Pan Am unitil the 2011-12 Season

This is great news, but to me a "home-and-home" in basketball is what we have with utep and unm. 2 games in one season played in each city, but it sounds like they are playing in Tucson this year and LC next year. Which way is it? Please clarify this for us. Also, if it is the latter any word on how many tickets NMSU will be given to sell, I'd love to make that trip to support our team.

Even though Arizona is not the powerhouse it used to be, they are still considered a quality opponent. This is a chance for NM State to win a significant non-conference game.

A home and home means they play us at their home one year we play at our home the next season. We have a Home and Away series with UTEP and UNM.

I hope the Aggies schedule more of the tougher teams and fewer of the lower division cupcakes. There isn't a whole lot we can do about the dregs of the WAC, but we sure can control who we play in pre conference play.

I'm getting excited for the upcoming season already! (By the way, I love the new blog layout)

Except the state of NM makes the Aggies play at least one cupcake.

Groves your blog is titled Basketball Blog. You should get a better title. Something like, "Aggie blotters" or "renegade" as our program has been coined.

I'm excited about the upcoming season. Jahmar Young and Jonathan Gibson contributed a lot offensively, but I think the Aggies have the potential to be even better this year. Gillenwater has star potential and I hope he and McKines can stay eligible. Rahman could be a dominating big man in the WAC.

Exciting schedule? Are you serious? How many SWAC schools are we playing again? Pan Handle state? Hey groves, the scrimmage with Tech is a closed door thing, right? so that does nothing for the public.
Why can't the guys get some better name teams to come in here to the Pan Am? When they do that, then I will get excited about the schedule.

New Mexico State is not Duke, that's why they can't get anyone to come to a desert town like Las Cruces. Be realistic. I think NM State's schedule is decent and it fits their level of play. I'm a NM State fan but people in Las Cruces need a dose of reality. The Aggies haven't reached a level of CONSISTENT success to demand that top notch teams come to Las Cruces. 1 or 2 good seasons in the last 12 or 13 years does not make NM State an upper echelon team.

Thats not it. The Aggies are so tough now with Wendell and Troy that teams don't want to come here to the Pan Am and lose. Same thing happens with Boise State football.
