Here is another little blurb on Cantino, who is an East coast talent. Simmons is interesting because if he is a potential Aggies recruit, it shows that Marvin Menzies is willing to look to the JC ranks to try to find a stopgap type of player with Jahmar Young's departure.

Thanks for enlighting your readers,I thought that after the good season that NMSU had that by now we would have signed some good players.
Groves, when is the Sun News gunna fire Turdy Furburger and give you the recognition you deserve?
You're the best Sports writer this town has ever seen.
Rivals.com said that the Mensa commitment is a done deal and he got that information from people in the inside so not sure how you could say what you say about Mensa.
Marvin never seems to announce signings when everyone else does. But they always seem to be worth the wait.
Anon, Mensa wasn't even on campus last year. It sounds like he has some serious health issues, but if you want to pencil him into the starting lineup, be my guest.
Do you have any idea what health problems Mensa is dealing with?
JG--question for you: Any chance Menzies is holding out on Mensa, and looking at JCers to stay in the running for DJ Seeley? I suspect that if Mensa was signed, NMSU would be crossed off the list for the Cal transfer.
Will somebody please explain to me the rules on granting scholarships? Based on what has been written, NMSU had one scholarship available due to Gibson leaving. Now we have 2 with Young leaving with a possible third one based on APR. It appears that would be the extent of available scholarships. How can a school, UTEP for example, have one scholarship available and yet have 4 or 5 new scholarship players coming in. As I understand, the NCAA had a 5 - 8 rule but still don't you have to get rid of current scholarship players to sign new ones? If you have to get rid of players, why would a kid go to a school with that approach and how doesn't that impact the APR? Can anybody answer these questions for me?

Anon 7:59,
I think two of the UTEP prospects decided to go elsewhere. But you are right, they had more coming in than they had to offer, which means exactly what you said...some current player would have to find another home.
Never having played college basketball, or high school ball either, I can only hazard a guess...kids will go to the place they perceive is the best program that offers a place for them, AND with offers/promises playing time. I don't think that potential recruits give much thought to going to a school that gives more scholarships than it has available, the recruits are, after all, getting the scholarship and not giving it up. And it would be easy at the age of eighteen or nineteen years of age to believe that losing a place on a team wouldn't happen to him.
Just MHO.
Anon 9:21, I think that could have something to do with it. The Aggies certainly need an impact player in the backcourt who is Division I ready. Mensa could indeed be coming to NMSU but perhaps as a walk on or redshirt type player. I don't know if the Aggies could depend on a guy coming in who hasn't played for more than a year.

I sure agree that we need to recruit a shooter who can play right away. Maybe LaRouche will let it fly a bit more.
Starvin' Marvin is hungry for some players.
If we don't get a stud in soon, we're in trouble.
What about the Soph. Guard at Oregon that was just granted his release? We need to be blowing up his cell phone!
We have studs. We just need some roleplayers to fill the holes.
Mensa passed away on November 15, 2010 from a long battle with a rare form of cancer.
