WAC change

Apparently cost saving is a big topic of the WAC meetings this week. Cutting down on expenditures is one reason next year's WAC tournament in Reno will not include the play-in game between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeded teams. Nothing official from the WAC yet, but that could be announced in the next couple of weeks as well as the much potential move of the WAC tournament to Vegas.

The WAC Tourney in a MWC building? Why not play it at the pit? I would love to have another excuse to go to Vegas, but I'm not sure if this is it. What school would "sponsor" it? I would assume Nevada, but why would the city of Reno allow them to move it to Vegas? It's more than just the school who gets behind the tournament. There is a lot of money to be made/lost for area business.

Anon809, if the WAC tournament moves to Las Vegas, it will be held at the Orleans Arena. It wouldn't be at an MWC arena. I like the idea of the WAC tournament being played at a neutral site.

Orleans Arena? That place only holds 9,000, and was made for hockey. Not to mention that the Orleans isnt really a choice hotel.

So what, there are plenty of choice hotels around the way. And if you've been to any tourney recently, not more than 9,000 attend unless it's the host team that is playing. It's the perfect size for the event. The WCC played there last year and had nothing but good things to say. Do some research before you complain.

12:04 Are you the GM of the orleans? Haha, I went to the tourney in Reno last year and of course the 2 in LC. They were all great times. Although I dont want Reno to become the only host city it has been for 4 of the last 6, but I like the feel of the home court team. Plus let's be honest, it's still in Nevada, there will be more Reno fans than any other school unless someone has a spectacular season.

And you must be the GM of the MGM Grand.

Plenty of hawaii transplant in Vegas. Utah St always travel well, and Vegas is more of a destination spot than Reno. I was in Reno too, and had a GREAT time. I just know it'll be a better experience in Vegas. More people I know of would be willing to go.

This is not about who hosts and how big the venue might be. This is about being a respected conference. What big time conference has their tourney on one of the schools home court? None. This about progress for a very competitive WAC field.
