De'Shawn Gomez

With the regular signing period ending next Wednesday, there is a good possibility that the Inglewood guard could be an Aggie next season. Gomez came to Las Cruces for a visit over the weekend, which means to me that there is a high likelihood he could commit since it's so late in the recruiting season. Last week, the Aggies announced they had signed big man B.J. West to a scholarship and Northern Cali guard Justin Standley will be here as a possible redshirt. It's unclear who would receive the additional two scholarships at this point but it looks like another guard could be on the roster. When the recruiting period began, Menzies said he wanted to go after size and a combo guard type player, which appears to be just what he brought in.

Whats the word on N'doye?

Anon at 1245, that's what I'm curious about. N'doye is certainly on the radar but his situation appears to be academic in nature. Can he get the test scores he needs? Does he come and pay his own way and redshirt? These are things that are still being ironed out.

Alex Kirk???
Has anyone heard if we are recruiting him? Or do we even go for players that pass there classes?

We have scholarships available and no players are signing?!

Reggie never had this problem, he had kids willing to sit out a year or walk on in order to play for NMSU!!

Menzies is not a good bench coach and I now question his recruiting credibility!

Anon 3:35...you're nuts!! Our scholarships are filled AND we have walk-ons. Do your homework!! MM is doing a great job.

Menzies recruiting credibility?

McKines, Gillenwater, Laroche, Rahman (still a work in progress, I admit). I think he's done just fine.

Gillenwater and Rahman both sat out a year to play for NMSU, he convinced Watson to pay his own way for a year, and while we won't know until we see them on the court, it seems like West, Standley, and possibly Gomez could all be future contributors.

OK, MM can recruit.
Can some vouch for his coaching or motivational skills??

He's no Bob Knight, but I think he's getting it done, or at the very least, improving.

It is funny. When somebody says anything negative about Marvin Menzies, everybody jumps on the comment. Why can't you take a step back and be an objective Aggie fan? Lets be logical about Marvin Menzies. He's been an AVERAGE coach overall. Nothing great, but we could do worse. When he began, he had a very good roster and failed to do anything with it ... and now he's got a bunch of young guys who won't be "rookies" next year, so he better show significant improvement. To me, he's improving as a coach: but at a snail's pace. Being motivational, getting in his student-athletes' faces during games, being a strategist; ALL NEED major improvement in my eyes. Next year should be a significantly important year for him.
I hope he can smooth things over with Gillenwater and figure out how to motivate JY. JY needs some fire in his attitude that he lacked last year. If JY does well enough next year and can become a 1st Round NBA pick, it would do more for the NMSU program than having him back for his senior year.

Ha, you being objective 007? He did nothing his first season? 20+ wins, a share of the WAC title, and a 3OT thriller that didn't end in our favor. Yeah we didn't have any post season play, but to say what we accomplished nothing is marginalizing what they did accomplish. Not a very objective approach or logical IMO.

And JY needs to add a lot of muscle before he even starts thinking about the Association. He lacks more than just fire to be a first rounder pick.

007 The person every one was responding to said Menzies couldn't recruit. Not very objective methinks. Why do you constantly have to pile on Menzies and think you are on a higher level of thinking than the rest of us?
