Tuesday

During Tuesday's Coach Menzies press conference, he said that he hasn't decided if Troy Gillenwater would practice. I hope to talk to him after practice since Aggies practices are closed. I did see Gillenwater in practice gear as he left the lockerroom and went to the training room so I don't know if that means anything.

Regarding Joyner, I talked with McKinley Boston on Monday. He said that he will meet with Menzies and Joyner at some point this week. He said the challenge is determining if the arrest subjects him to a first positive test, which would go a long ways to determine the length of the suspension based on the guidelines of the student athlete handbook.

Ok I know I argued that Menzies had done the right thing sitting Gillenwater but right now I dont quite agree for what is happening. It said in your article JG that coach said that we would either move forward or move in another direction. I read that and it sounds to me that if things dont get fixed then Troy and Joyner will be let go. Im up for suspending players because they let their mouths get the best but I hope Gillenwater isnt released or something because of that. You already suspended him, done. By dragging this out its just showing the rest of the town and the recruits that Menzies cant handle when good players have a hissy fit. Its going to happen and I think that the suspension should have been enough.

Is there any ill will towards Gillenwater because he's not a MM recruit? 4 of the 9 recruits from that class have left and that might be 5 if Wendell had left, not including Troy G if something happens with him. This was arguably the best class NMSU has ever had, yet it wasn't his guys. I understand if Coach want's his guys, that buy into his program. But that's a lot of talent to walk out of Las Cruces.

GS, you always have some great opinions on Aggie basketball, but I think I see this one slightly differently than you. Speculatively (which is all we can do at this point), I imagine that Menzies has said or will say to Gillenwater "Look. This is how things work in my program. If you want to be part of what we're building, this is how it's going to be. If that's not what you want, then we need to help you move on." I'm hopeful that neither player leaves, simply because the program can't take the APR hit, but it may be that the cost of building the NMSU basketball program in a sustainable fashion is much greater than we imagined, and may include some more player movement this summer.

gillenwater is a MM recruit i believe. can someone tell me otherwise?

I said in an earlier post that I admired Menzies for not putting any player before the program. Thats why I approved of benching Gillenwater if he deserved it. I also agree that if a player is not happy here or does not like the way things are working that they should leave. However, if coach wont talk about happened and leaves us speculating then dont cause more damage by implying that Gillenwater might leave. He talked about keeping things in house but if him and Gillenwater dont agree then let that in house too. There is no need to say that if things dont get fixed we will look at other solutions, leave that for the end of the season if you wont tell us now what the problem is.

Hey IC, both Gillenwater and McKines are Menzies recruits....

GS, WTF man. He addresses your concerns in the article. We the public have NO NEED to know whats going on in house.

He didn't imply TG was going to leave. He drew a line in the sand. The balls in TGs court now. Does he want to shape up or ship out? That's not too much to ask from him.

IC, TG was MM recruit. Nothing to do with Theus. Theus is GONE. NOTHING THIS PROGRAM DOES FROM HERE ON OUT IS A RIPPLE EFFECT FROM RT DEPARTURE...JEEZUS.

Troy Gillenwater is a Menzies recruit.

My bad, I think he was a MM recruit. Which makes things a little more troubling. His recruits should have known what they were signing up for. Hopefully things get set right and we get to watch Troy for 3 more years.

JG. I was wondering why my post about people on the blogs being ignorant to something that happened in Logan, Utah wasn't posted. Can you please let me know why it wasnt posted. Thanks

It wasn't the content of your post because you made some good points, it was the language you chose to do so. there aren't many standards here, but try to keep the language clean

Dont recall using any bad language but your the boss.

GS,
I was a bit confused on Tuesday as well because the release Menzies put out over the weekend said it was a one-game suspension and he didnt practice tuesday so obviously the issue isn't past. I have a feeling that troy will play on Saturday but with this team nothing really surprises me anymore

Troy's a gamer. I interpreted the one-game suspension to mean one game; i.e., the win in Lawlor Arena where roughly 6,778 had to finally shut their yaps! I subtracted a few from the attendance because on the radio broadcast you could clearly hear about 4 or 5 rabid AGGIE fans totally out of control yelling. It was so quiet in there that screaming from the stands could be clearly heard at several points in the game, noteably when Ray Kraemer was at the stripe. That was awesome! Maybe Jack knows who those folks are or if it's one of you maybe you want to step forward and take a bow. Kraemer doesn't miss often ...
