This shouldn't come as a surprise, everyone had a feeling. Today following the NMSU women's soccer coach press conference at 1:30, the Aggies will announce Troy Gillenwater's intention of declaring for the NBA Draft. As of right now, he will not hire an agent.
More on this later on today.

Good Player at NMSU, but NO WAY is Gilley ready for the NBA.
Absolutely, Troy, if you want to play pro ball, try to get drafted and end up being a pro in a country that was once part of the eastern bloc.
Your best chance is coming back for your senior year and becoming the player of the year in the WAC with a 25 point per game average.
Of course you'll have to play tougher and smarter than you have since you've gotten here...which may not be possible.
He'll be back next year. No way is he ready. He'll only have a couple of weeks to get evaluated. Unless, there are academic issues that he really doesnt want to deal with. I hope he's simply just not tired of school, because next year could be a good year for aggie basketball if he stays.
I know this case is a bit different than JY who probably wouldnt have been allowed back.
he is not ready for the league. it is a mans league and he is still a boy who tries to act tough. sure another year here will help him, BUT he doesn't go to class, he doesn't do the school work and boston can only petition the ncaa to let him play even though his grades aren't good a few times. he is lazy in all areas of his life and game. let him move on. let menzies coach someone who really wants to be a true student0athlete.
Troy, obviously if you listened to any of these posters you wouldn't have held the press conference. You're a man playing a kids game, and as long at it's fun why not get paid? The NCAA makes its money; for instance the new president who followed Miles Brand, himself pulling down $1.7 extra large annually! Dude! Not bad for a non-profit organization. And as Coach said, if nobody's gonna pay you more than, say, $50,000 then you'll get all the minutes you want here dominating the WAC with the silky J. Shoot, you could make $50,000 getting a regular job with your NMSU degree. War Utah State. War Nevada.
Think about it. Sans agent, should Troy get the cold shoulder in the draft, he could come back and be the Herb Pope NMSU only had for a few games. Word.
The all the posters down in blogville will rejoice again. Don't be so glum, dudes ... it's just a game. But I wouldn't go so far as to say, "it's how you play the game." Winning matters, for sure. Good luck, Troy!
He has all the tools to be the player in the WAC.
Many of these kids declare but don't hire an agent. This is a simple process where scouts evaluate players so they can work on certain aspects of their game.
Unless there is something we don't know, he should be back.
Good for Menzies supporting Troy all the way through the draft process. It would mean a lot to the program for prospective players to see that Aggies can get to the pro ranks on the N. American continent. Next year Troy turns 23 and he's wasting his short window where he can capitalize on his God-given abilities.
Not too many folks who live outside of dreamland believe Troy has the skills, smarts, or balls to play in the NBA right now. If he goes pro now he'll be just another good Euro-league player. Of course there's not guarantee he'll be anything else after another year at NMSU. He'll have to up his game his senior season, drop the baby fat, find some core strength and dominate.
It's possible. Just not likely.
Herb Pope? He did better as an Aggie freshman than he's done in two years of playing at Seton Hall. Pope is a bust.
As for Gillenwater, if he was NBA ready, he'd be taking over games. I don't recall him taking over any games this last year or the year before. Yeah, he's decent, but NBA-material? Not a chance.
He needs do a lot better in his senior year, get that crybaby look off his face, nutup, and be a badmofo on the court.
Good old Herbie Pope. Might as well be a no-show for Seton Hall. He did better here as a freshman.
Troy is NOT ready for the NBA!!! He'll be back.
Boys we like Troy and we will bring him in Europe. Watch out 2011-12
