Boise State

I will say this for the Aggies. They are winning some close games this year, which is different for them the past two years. And twice, it's been Gibson who has made the big shot at the end. This time sinking the game-winning 3.
Young and Gibson combined for 45 points in a high-scoring affair. The Aggies seem to be shooting the ball better, hopefully the Boise State game was a sign of things to come for the Aggies

Glad the Aggies won.

Maybe McKinnis can blog about the poor attendance of the Aggie fans in Boise.

Better yet, McKines should stop blogging altogether.

I think Wen is correct and has a reason to be upset.

Las Cruces is not a wealthy community...people aren't going to waste their money on TRASH...which is what Aggie basketball has become.

All I can say is people complained all year about the way Aggie Basketball is going and from a season ticket holder for the last four years I have only seen decreasing attendance blaze the trail for the program. You won't hear very many winning programs complain about attendance and we haven't had a losing season in a while. So maybe fans included should quit checking the scores online and come to the game as well.

And why should Wendall be happy... Everyone left him for dead and held no confidence that he would get his grades back up. (They shouldn't of been there in the first place but still... What hope have we given or inspired to him, the team, the coaching staff or the athletic department in general. Just asking...)

How about getting rid of 9pm game starts during the school and work week?

Anon, 8:16. Wendell maybe correct in what he is saying but he is the wrong person to say it let alone use the tone and language that he did. for someone who has screwed up as much as he has, what gives him the right to start calling out the fans? before Wendell points out fingers at everybody he should take a hard look at himself. Wendell needs to learn responsibility and humility and show RESPECT for the school, the community and the fans. That much he owes them.

I do believe that the players should be able to voice opinions. I seen a couple of games (do not live in LC) and there are times I question the coaching...not the players. If the team is in fact trash like Anon 932 says then we only have one MM to blame. When watching the games it looked like they were playing street ball with maybe another pass or two. When MM was thrown out did the team look like a team with Mick?

It amazes me that anyone would pay to go watch that group of idiots run around the floor, win or lose. there are other activities and teams on that campus who deserve the support and who represent us in a positive way. go aggies.

Anon 10:02, --- "...I do believe that the players should be able to voice opinions..."

I agree that players should be able to voice their opinions. I doubt anyone disputes that. However, when a player voices an opinion, said player should expect responses. After reading through the above, I'd say not everyone agrees with him. As a matter of fact, I would say that many feel that he should first take a hard look in the mirror and then maybe think about the reasons why people haven't attended prior to expressing his opinion.

The NMSU women are playing excellent ball and there is a local girl starting for them. Still very few fans show up to support them. I am with Wendall, Cruces is a "front runner" town and will be quick to point out all sorts of excuses not to show up. This is our town and our university, go support our programs. It is 5 bucks to watch a high school game and 5 bucks to watch the women. It is only going to get worse if we dont go support NMSU.

Anon 6:28-Will you and everybody else that is complaining about the 9pm start just let it go, and quit quoting that as the reason for poor attendance. Its just an excuse. There used to be Big Monday games during the Big West days, and all of those games started at 10 pm. The Pan Am was always packed and rowdy. A Theus team or McCarthy team would have packed the house at midnight! The reality is this:

1) The teams performance is very average, and aside from Big Wen, has no personality or swagger. Not in the players, or coaches.

2) The students don't come out to games in masses to cheer on the team. There is no school spirit.

3) Las Cruces is much more of a geriatric community than what it was even then. These people don't come to games, and when they do, all is do is complain about the people standing. No disrespect intended for our elderly, but its the truth. The community needs to come out and get behind this team.

Until one of these 3 things changes, things will not improve. My guess is to start with the COACH. The other two will change when we have a winner, or at least a disciplined team that plays hard and doesn't get blown out by 30 points by other mid majors.

I think Wendie doesn't have a clue about fans. Exactly what town isn't a front runner town when the fans have been subjected to mediocrity for so long? What town wouldn't be a front runner town when two of the starters for the team don't care enough to go to class and make grades AND play against their biggest rivals?

Take a look around. UNM hasn't filled the Pit this year and they are a top 25 rated team. UTEP averages less than 10,000 in a town of 800,000, with the Miners being 9-3.

It's been my experience that athletic programs that aren't successful for long stretches of time don't get the big crowds. A few examples. Remember a few years ago when Duke had a pretty mediocre team? The stands, which were normally jam packed, were not filled. Look at pro football. When the Saints were terrible, you could buy a ticket anywhere in their stadium. Now that they're playing better, tickets are harder to come by. Just two examples, and there are many.

6:56 I know for a fact that UNM sold out at least 2 home games. The NMSU game and the TX Tech(wife's alma mater) game. So to say that they aren't filling the stadium is false. It may only be 2 games, but when was the last time we sold out two games, let alone in the same month?
