Schedule

Now that the official schedule has been released, here is a thread to voice your thoughts. I thought numerous posters on an old thread made some good points but the schedule didn't receive too many good reviews. Certainly the home portion figures to be a little on the light side, but as RM noted in a previous post, it's not that much different than past schedules. I can't even say it's a whole lot different than the two years that I have covered the team. Pepperdine wasn't very good last year at all and the Aggies made North Texas look like the Dallas Mavs two years ago in two non-conference home games that come to mind.

How many wins do you see? I'll make my prediction closer to the season when the personnel matters are more crystal clear, but UCLA, four rivalry games, Saint Mary's, on the road at Pepperdine...I like the early schedule for this particular group.

I like that the game in Abq is on a Sat. Will make the trip a little easier.

27-4. If they had all their players I'd say they have the potential for 31-0 or 30-1. We'd have to play mistake free ball with major focus on the defensive effort to accomplish 30 wins. What the team needs to understand most is that every game is a tournament game. They lose a game, they drop below another team destined to the big dance. They lose 5 games, with the weak schedule and no marquee win, they don't make it to the tournament with an at-large. Clean and simple. It's been a while since we've been in the position to be screwed over by the selection committee, but I still remember. The players need to understand this.

I think we dump Pepperdine and do a home and away with Florida Int.

I think the Aggies can have a respectable season depending on how well they adjust to Wen and Gillenwater not being there early. Other players who havent been tested will need to step up and fill those shoes. On that topic, I think its funny how everyone blasted Reggie for bringing in recruits who did not behave well or performed well in the classroom. Yet now the same thing is happening with Menzies. I like Menzies and I never have said anything bad about him or the team. I just dont believe that academic reasons should be a problem. Its not hard to pass classes and if you see that they are struggling start getting on them and dont let them fail. We already lost Joyner, Gabriel and Higgins before the season started last year. Menzies needs to find a way to keep this team in check this season so they wont be slacking and giving him attitude the way that they did last year.

All this is about W's! Off court stuff around here gets swept under the rug so we can keep trying to win. That is all Boston is about and we all just keep putting up with it. Our mens hoops schedule looks like we are playing in the Southland or SWAC conference and we better not get beat by those schools, especially at home.

The French player we signed is named Bandja Sy. He is a 6'8 SF who is rated highly by ESPN.com. He is from Paris, France.

I don't recall many people blasting Theus at all for in class performance. The main rub against Theus was that he allowed Nelson to play, even though he was facing felony charges. And he signed Herb Pope, a youth with a checkered pass. Academic issues are much easier to handle than off-campus issues IMO.
