Women's schedule

Coach Spence and the NMSU sports information department told me that the Aggies have secured a home and home with Michigan, set to begin at home next year during the Thanksgiving Classic, which means non conference home games next year against UNM, Kansas, UTEP and Michigan. Pretty solid

That is great. I know coach has done a lot to get more home games here in the Pan Am. His first few years they played a ton of road games. Having those "name" schools coming to the arean should help attract more fans and continue the increasing support that has been growing over the past couple of years.

JG; what is the health right now of this team? I heard something about Madi having Mono. Is she ok and back practicing now? Sure would hate to see her struggle with that all year long.

The Crmison and White scrimmage showed a few things from the team. They looked organized for the first day of practice, but I know that is something coach really stresses with his teams, regardless of the style they will play that particular year. It was hard to tell who was who because they didn't introduce the kids to the fans and they weren't wearing numbers. The new BIG kid has some quick moves around the basket and will be tough to guard down there. Nice to see Niki Holt healthy and doing some good things. I really like the guard they all call Day Day. She is so stinking athletic, quick and looks to score. I hope she can grow as the year moves on and have a good year. I also like that other freshman point guard Kaitlyn Soto. What a fire cracker she is. Tough kid.

Could be another fun year for our women's team.

That sounds good. The fans need to keep showing up to the womens games. Since coach Spence has arrived our fan base has grown but its not enough. The UNM womens games average 9,000 fans at the Pit.why can't we be putting a 4,000 in the Pan Am for our games? We have a good coach, a good product, we play a fun style of basketball, we have a "Local" kid leading the way and we're coming off back to back to back WAC championship games. We all need to help this program this year and beyond.

Coach Spence is doing a great job. Both getting these young women ready to play. and getting big name schools to come to LC. I admit I dont follow womens hoops as much as I should so I cant say whether KU or UM carry the tradition of their men's teams, but great job bringing them to LC.

Obviously the women's program at Kansas is not that of the mens. However, they were one of those five teams that got in the WNIT last season when our Aggies got hosed, even though our RPI and record was better. Their strength of schedule was better because they play other Big 12 schools. Having said that, the Kansas women did make it to the semi-finals of the WNIT. They will be tough at their place this year for us and will be tough when they come here. The Michigan women are also a WNIT team and will continue to improve. These games will do nothing but get us better and prepare us better for WAC play and the tournament. Our Aggie women's program has been fun to watch over the past few year and they will continue to be in the years to come.

I take my hat off to coach Spence. In his sixth season, he is the second longest tenured coach in this programs history. Karen Fey had been here the longest and that was eight years, as I believe she started the program. Coach is tied for 3rd in wins here even with his rough first few years, which should show you just how below average this program has been for a long long time. So with one win this season he moves in to the 2nd spot and will need 61 wins to take over the lead. I think he will get those in a another few years which will run him through this new contract he has. This guy is an Aggie. You see him at all the other teams games here at NMSU and he displays an enthusiasm toward being an Aggie. I participate in th women's basketball Fast Break Club, go to all the games and have been around him for going on six years now. Boston should keep this guy around for as long as he wants to stay.

I went to their Tip Off Banquet last night and boy was it a fun night. The girls were charming and fun to be around and coach spoke with a passion and energy for this team and program that can't be matched by any of our other coaches. Young team, new faces, new talent, bigger kids which all take time to gel together. I know they will have a fun year.

So, all you Aggie fans who are upset about football and soon will be about mens basketball; just jump on the band wagon with us over here and support the women's basketball team.

Of the 9,000 fans at the Pit for the women's games, I'll bet that about a third of them will tell you they'd never go to a men's game. You'll hear the same thing here from a similar percentage of the fans. These folks simply prefer the women's game to the men's. Nobody should feel bad for NMSU though, because Albuqueque's population is so high. The UNM promoters did do a good job of capitalizing on their women's team run to the NCAA in 02-03 and high national rankings.

Come on Aggie fans. The time is now to pack the Pan Am for our women's basketball team and support them at every game. Bring your kids, bring your parents, bring your friends! The games are exciting, fun and not expensive. You can sit close to the court, feel the intensity of the play and not have to worry about covering your kids ears for fear of them hearing something bad from the players or fans. Get to the games and have fun.

All you NMSU students need to get out there as welll. One thing though, please leave the "nice shot *********" in the dorms.

This will be a fun year.

You are right about UNM promoting their women's basketball program very well. That program has been very solid for a while now and has been a model that Coach Spence has been trying to follow. Did you know that our teams RPI was higher than that of the UNM team last season? We also beat them soundly last season after getting beat by them 22 times in a row. I would like to see us travel to the game at UNM like their fans travel down here. I would also like to see our administrators make their fans sit up in the corner yellow section to repay them for where they make us sit when we go up there. Maybe with them selling reserved seats for the games this year and some are behind the visitors bench, they can push the UNM people up there in the corner.

Now, back to the promoting. One are that NMSU has really been bad at over the past years is our marketing and promoting department. Tell me, why isn't there a marque sign that flashes all the upcoming events out in front of the Pan Am on University and Triviz? Our marketing people put all their eggs in one basket and they promote one game for each sport a year really hard and then just forget about all the other games. Why not promote them all as being just as important? They are.

Nov. 2 at 5:00 is our women's basketball teams first game. Sure its an exhibition game, but that shouldn't matter. Get to the arena and get the year started off right. Next one is Nov. 5 against a team from Australia.

Aggie hoop fever is here.

I'd rather be upset with football and mens basketball than follow womens basketball.

Ok shallow person who thinks women's basketball is boring, you just stay home and enjoy your life.

Its really nice to see that a forum such as this blog bringing out the best in people. What would make a person type in; "boring" or "rather be upset with fb & mbb than follow womens basketball"? Sure, that person probably shouldn't have brought fb & mbb in to the picture, but i believe they were probably talking about dashed expectations. We are trying to promote all the sports here on campus and having you join in would be greatly appreciated. True Aggie fans should support all our teams.

oh, I know the team uses male practice players, so why don't you contact the coaches and go over there to play against our "boring" female athletes? I bet you don't last very long on the court with them.

Have a great Aggie Day!

I don't think anyone is saying the girls aren't good at basketball. Nor do I think its fair of you to say that i'm not a true Aggie fan because I find womens basketball boring and slow. Do I want them to succeed (WBB), I suppose, but honestly I just don't care. FWIW, their comeback win last year against Boise St (or was it Fresno) in the WAC tournament was very exciting. But that's the exception rather than the rule. Different strokes my friend.

Thats sad my friend. Hope you don't have daughters who want to play the sport. Again, different strokes, you're right.

If you can't separate supporting your offspring to not supporting something you don't find entertaining then I don't know what to do for you. I don't have a daughter, but if I do, you can bet I'll support her 100% in whatever she chooses to pursue.

But the numbers don't lie. WBB is just not very popular in America.

I think a bigger issue w/ Anon 9:15 am, Oct 23rd is not whether he chooses to support the women's teams or not. I think by posting the comment he was not just showing lack of support for the women's team, but rather trying to put a negative spin on the women's teams. If he chooses not to support them, so be it, but why make a negative comment. I think it is because he has a desire for the women's teams NOT to succeed and he chose this forum to make his point.

JJ. Right on!

And now we get on with the season for both our women's and men's team and support them. Have a great year.

Move on.
