Why Khem Birch could pick the Aggies

Pitt transfer Khem Birch has apparently received his release to a handful of schools including New Mexico State. Birch is scheduled to visit NMSU on Wednesday and Thursday and UNLV on Friday.

Birch will be coming to Las Cruces after a visit to Florida. Obviously NMSU is up against some heavy hitters but the Aggies obviously have just a strong as chance of landing the former McDonalds All American. Number one is Ags assistant Paul Weir. Weir has a long standing relationship with Birch dating back to when he was recruiting NMSU senior point guard Hernst Laroche. Laroche and Birch played in the same AAU program with Brookwood Elite for a period of time. Birch is apparently also friends with 7-5 redshirt Sim Bhullar.

Birch would likely play right now at NMSU if he were here. He would certainly log major minutes at both post positions once he becomes eligible in the second semester as Bhullar, BJ West and Chili Nephawe and potentially Renaldo Dixon are slated as the options at the four and five next year.

He should feel right at home here with his fellow Canadians and NMSU's knowledge and understanding of their needs and, as small as the difference may be, the culture.

Let's hope he likes what he sees.

Jason,

Who is redshirting this year? Why is K.C. Ross-Miller not playing? Is he eligible?

I don't know how many times I've addressed Ross Miller. He is redshirting. With the departure of Kabongo and the injury to de Rouen, perhaps they could activate him. It's something I plan to ask when the Aggies return. I think it would be a waste to bring him in at this point. Remember he only has three years left. Just my opinion, but if there was a guard who they could burn the redshirt, it would be Eric Weary since he's been practicing all year. Again, just an opinion at this point.

I think this is Menzies chance to earn his tag as a great recruiter. I keep hearing and reading that everywhere, but who has he really recruited that has lasted 4 years here and realized their talent. Wen is the only one, and he almost left. Also, Wen wasnt highly recruited out of high school.

McKines, Laroach, and Rahman are MM's best recruiting jobs. Kabongo was his most "talented" recruit which obviously did'nt pan out. Sy has been ok, watson ok, chili not yet, Remi not yet.
