Menzies and NMSU agree to two-year extension

My story on  NMSU and Marvin Menzies' two-year extension, running through April of 2014. The current deal ended following next season.

McKinley Boston said the recruiting factor was a significant reason the two sides wanted a deal done before next year.

The salary of $280,500 remains the same.

This is completely unbelievable. We have one tournament appearance in 4 years, and a losing record last year. We also cannot beat our rivals. How does this warrant a contract extension?

Menzies can't keep players in the program or on the court, and he cannot keep assistant coaches. The players are generally lazy and underperform.

What part of Menzies track record in our program warrants an extension? I just don't get it. I would like for some of his supporters to get on this blog and come out and defend this. Maybe I'm just missing something.

The recruiting argument, while it could be true, is irrelevant in this case. Menzies is not bringing in great players. The only great player we have seen in 4 years is Big Wen. The others with talent are quitters.

Frustrating!

This just shows just how bad of a leader that idiot boston is. Lets keep rewarding both those clowns with contract extensions, salaries and bonus incentives. We, the people of this community and aggies all over need to rise up and drive these two clowns out of town.
What has Marvelous Menzies done since he has been here? Nothing of what is expected of a once tradition rich men's basketball program. Nothing!
Menzies and Boston are not a part of this community. They do nothing but rob us, lie to us and put out a poor product. The men's hoops team is lazy and full of guys who could care less about us here in LC.
As for Boston. That idiot is running good people out of the department; Lieberwirth and Spence, and replacing them with coaches who care nothing of this community or the people in it. He screws over Lieberwirth and only offers him a better deal when he realizes that UTEP is going to treat him like he has earned. Lieberwirth was an Aggie long before that idiot Boston ever got here. He went to school here, he played here and won championships here, only to be screwed over by Boston. Spence was a part of this community. His children went to our schools, he was an active member of the community at youth sports and business fuctions and he worked hard to help the young people and coaches of this community. He didn't just rob our wallets. The guy slept in a tent to promote the program and run his own season ticket sale drive. These two guys cared about NMSU, Las Cruces and Aggies everywhere and they both got hosed by Boston.
So, now, we just have to sit and watch this train wreck happen. I'm telling you....Jordan will wake up and find a new home very soon. Boston has been and is a joke. He was Martins little puppet, and without Martin, the guy can't find an original idea anywhere.
My wife and I have been season ticket holders for several years and used to be involved in the 6th man club. we no longer will do either, as well as we will not assist the wbb program.
Go Boston!!!

Another sign that Boston didn't want Spence around and treated him like dirt was his quote about how giving the extension helps recruiting. Twice, Boston left Spence hanging in the wind in the last year of his contract and the first time it KILLED him and the program in recruiting. Ask Boston about that and he will refuse to own up to that. What a joke.

I agree 100 percent with Anon 5:39 PM. Boston is a arrogant "you know what" (starts with a B)and he thinks he can do as he pleases...like people in Las Cruces aren't educated on sports or life. He makes lousy decisions and he doesn't know what he's doing.

I'd rather have really good coaches that stay here for a couple years and move on but make the program a little better each time...eventually we will be consistent and quality coaches will want to stay at NMSU. Rewarding an underachieving coach that is not capable of getting an equal or better job elsewhere is not the answer. Essentially Menzies has nowhere else to go so Boston rewards him...it's the stupid thing ever.

It's going to be hard to choke down another couple of seasons with a average coach. But what wont be hard is not renewing my season tickets. Boston you clown. Get out of town. You don't reward a coach unless he produces.

Sorry for my mistakes in grammar on my last post..I am irritated, as many other Aggie fans are..lol.

I have NO confidence in MM as a coach and NO respect for Boston as an AD. Even so, I will continue being a season ticket holder for both football and basketball. I respect the efforts these students are making, under very adverse conditions (poor fan attendance, lack of fan support, ineffectual coaching, lack of accountability, etc, etc, etc) Boston's ivory tower attitude is insulting and dismissive. My question is...what can we do as Aggie fans, to be rid of Boston and Menzies?

I think we're all a little stupider for having spent the time it takes to read RT's 7:27 post.

The grammar is no problem. What you should apologize for is the suggestion that really good coaches come in succession and stay for just couple of years.

Anon 3:46,
I think posting blogs anonymously on the Sun News site is a start.

You sound level-headed, unlike these other posters.

Why don't you guys lead a horse into Boston's office at night like the Alpha's did to Dean Schwermer in the movie Animal House? That might have some effect.

16 and 17 without Wendell and JY...are you kidding me? At least 5,000 people a night are having a good time at Pan Am w/o you spoil-sports showing up to bring us all down.

NMSU's once proud basketball program has become a laughing stock under Marvin Menzo.

I did not attend a game last year and do not plan on attending any more while Marvin's the HC.

Sorry, NMSU I have better things to do with my time and money. Good luck to you and the 1/4 filled Pan Am center!

I think you're a little stupider for singling me out Anon 6:25 PM. I have said nothing different from anyone else. At least I'm willing to put my initials. You're just looking to be a smart *ss.

The point I was trying to make is that having really good coaches go through NM State will help the Aggies keep winning and that in return will attract a really good coach that eventually will see it as place worth staying. Keeping a mediocre coach simply because he's willing to stay long term makes no sense at all. Everyone else appeared to understand my post but you Anon 6:25...so really..who is the stupid one? DUH

Posting blogs about the NMSU hoops team(you admit you don't follow) at 10 am indicates your time must not be worth very much. I expect you don't command too much salary, consequently.

If you are being paid at work while hitting blogsites I certainly hope you are not soiling NMSU's good name by hanging one of their diplomas on your office wall.
