Utah State

Utah State head coach Stew Morrill said he favored NCAA tournament expansion. Part of the reason is that his team has won three straight regular season championships.

"I've always believed that the regular season means a lot," he said. "That 2 1/2 months defines your team. Expand if it rewards the regular season champs. If they do that, then lets expand."

Utah State hasn't played the Aggies with Troy Gillenwater in the lineup, but on the flip side, Utah State sharpshooter Brian Green, who is shooting 64 percent in WAC play, hitting 30 of 47 attempts from long range.

Utah State leads the nation with a 42.3 percent 3-point percentage, but they were 3 of 13 from long distance against the Aggies without Green in the lineup in Las Cruces.

I still think NMSU is the better team and a tough matchup for Utah State, but it's hard to expect them to go to Logan and win if they keep playing the same defense they have the past two games.

The same defense? Did they play any defense in the last game?

Better to save their juice for the WAC tournament. Not that it will make a difference, but perhaps they will find their game when it really makes a difference.

For a team with regular talent 19-10 is a decent record...but NM State has not played a super tough schedule and their talent level is way above average. I still have no faith in Menzies as a coach. This feels like a losing season to me. This team should have at least 23, 24 wins. There are really no excuses.

I expect Utah State to dominate NM State in Logan. NM State will win the first round of the WAC tourney and then get a big lead in the second round, lose the lead and end up losing on a last second shot as always. Menzies and his teams have become so predictable.

I was at the triple overtime loss to Boise during the WAC title game in Las Cruces a couple years ago and I knew that it was going to be a frustrating and painful tenure under Menzies. Some people were saying it was a great game. I think it was one of the sloppiest, worst college games I have ever seen.

I have to agree with the Utah State head coach. Why have a regular season that doesn't have anything to do with post season?

As far as the game tonight, the Aggies might win, and if they do, it will, in part, be because utah state has already clinched the regular season title and knows that even so, they need to win the WAC tournament to get into the Big Dance.

Is this still the Best Team for NMSU in a while? The numbers dont make a good argument for you and the league is not as strong as the past. I hope the aggies can make something happen in Reno!

Go Aggies!

I'm under the impression I'm a little older than most who post on here. Other than the NCAA team under Theus, the Aggies have really sucked at basketball for about 10 or 11 years now. The last few years are not indicative of what Aggie basketball tradition is about. Las Cruces was a really small town in the 70's and 80's but the Pan American Center would never have less than 10K for
EVERY game. Now 6,000 is considered a good crowd..that is pathetic. Basketball used to a passion at NM State, now it's a joke.

There is no need to expand the NCAA Tournament. The only change that should be made is to remove the play in game. Expanding wont help the tournament but will only make fans believe that their team has a shot. Nova has been the lowest seed (8) to win the tourney and so cinderella is just hype to bring in fans. I agree with Stu that regular season championships should mean something which leads to my question, when did winning the conference tournament become an automatic bid? Instead of expanding the tournament why not just grant the regular season champ the automatic bid and get rid of the conference tourney.
