Women's hoops news

Spoke with Darin Spence for a recruiting roundup story that will be in Thursday's paper. But he did inform me of some interesting schedule changes. It seems as the women's program continues to improve, they are improving their non-conference schedule. In addition to the UNM and UTEP games, the Aggies have a home-and-home set with Kansas, starting with Jan. 4 at Lawrence. The Aggies also have home dates with Cal Poly and UC Irvine. Other road game are at Long Beach, Northern Colorado and they play in a San Diego Tournament where Wake Forest is slated to show up. Thanksgiving Classic opponents are Loyola-Chicago and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

I hope to have some men's schedule info in the next couple of weeks.

JG. Excellent work being done here. I would like more updates, but I know you can't run just anything, and sometime the well is dry.

Good report on Menzies recruiting class as well. I know MM has some detractors, and some of them even bring up a point or two I agree with. But I hope for the sake of the program, people give MM a fair shake. Last year there was some growing pains, and I'm sure this coming season there will be some more. People just need to be patient and keep the big picture in mind, and not get discourage with the hiccups that will occur because of having a young team.

THANKS FOR THE INFO JASON. THE MORE NEWS YOU CAN REPORT TO US ON HOOPS, THE BETTER OFF WE ARE. AFTER ALL, WE AREN'T A FOOTBALL SCHOOL YET AND NO ONE REALLY CARES ABOUT VOLLEYBALL, SO KEEP THE MENS AND WOMENS HOOP SCOOP COMING.

I HEAR COACH SPENCE ISN'T DONE RECRUITING FOR THIS YEAR YET AND IS LOOKING TO FILL A HOLE IN THE POST STILL. I WAS ALSO TOLD, THE OTHER DAY, THAT HE IS WORKING ON A BIG TIME TRANSFER FROM UNIV. OF TEXAS. CAN YOU CHECK ON THAT.

I REALLY ENJOY WATCHING OUR WOMEN'S HOOP TEAM PLAY, BUT FEAR IF COACH SPENCE HAS A COUPLE MORE GOOD YEARS HE WILL BE ON DOWN THE ROAD. I HOPE NOT.

GO AGGIES

I doubt Spence will go anywhere until his daughter graduates.

Good point. Probably why the contract extension was a three year and not a five year deal.I know he enjoys coaching and you can tell she is comfortable with coach and the Las Cruces area, so it will be fun to watch her lead our team over the next three years.
But, on the other hand, it appears as though Boston is stuck on the number "3". All his contracts with his coaches are on three year cycles. It would be better for him to offer five year deals, for stability and the appearance that he wants people to stay here.
In talking with Coach Spence and Coach Jordan, I know they like being here and are doing good jobs, so why wouldn't Boston lock them up for a longer period so he can concentrate on football and mens basketball?
Anyway, have a great summer Aggie fans and let's see if we can help Coach Spence out next season and pack the Pan Pam. Spread the word, bring some friends to the games and have fun.
