Signing period

The regular signing period begins on Wednesday and runs through May 20. Don't expect anything soon. I talked to Coach Menzies on Tuesday. I get the feeling that the center and power forward are shoe ins, but he said he is going to take his time with the third scholly, most likely a guard but as he said before, they could hold it or give it to Tyrone Watson. Stay tuned

I thought Watson was already on scholarship.

Watson is a walk-on (for now).

Rumor that just started that Chris Gabriel is going to transfer. Can you find out if it is true?

Which center and forward?

Any news after 3 days?

Regarding Gabriel, there is nothing to the rumor of a Gabriel transfer that I could find. I know that every offseason, player movement is a big topic but the Gabriel rumor appears to be just that. .. I also know recruiting is on everyone's mind. Just to give you a little bit of a timeline on filling that third scholarship that Menzies has talked about going out and filling with a guard, I believe coaches are going to be on the road next week looking at players so it's apparent that they are taking their time since the regular period doesn't end for another month.

Like I've said before, I really think this class is more about getting some role players in. I don't see anyone coming in and taking minutes away from any of the returners, but every team needs those role players and as far as recruiting another center, Menzies has said before that you can never have too many players with size

What about Zach Adams at MVCS? He's one of the best point guards in the state. Any talk of him walking on? I know he comes from a low level of competition, but the kid can play and is a fantastic distributor!

Zach's playing in a tournament on a team with Gallup senior Alfhonso Hubbard in Denver this weekend to try to improve his stock. He's a great kid and was probably the best point guard in the city last year regardless of classification. I know he's got a number of D II offers and his dad told me that they are trying to arrange a workout with the Aggies. I don't see him a D I point guard that would contribute, at least right away and I think the Aggies are going to need a solid backup.

Adams has a schollie offer from an NAIA school in California.

Anyone else OK with Gibson taking the backup point minutes next year? I thought he did fine last year after Joyner got suspended. In fact, it makes him slow down a little and look for teammates instead of jacking up 28 footers with 31 on the shot clock. Plus, it moves JY to his natural 2 position instead of 3 where he's sometimes outmuscled.

I actually thought that when Gibson had to do point when Joyner was suspended and Larouche was on the bench resting, it helped alot. Justin is correct that it taught Gibson some patience which he seems to lack when he is the shooting guard. It looked like last summer Gibson spent time just shooting the ball; hopefully this summer he will spend time handling the ball and learning how to dish it off. He already has a shooter's touch and penetration skill. If he couples that with patience and an big increase in assists, then I think his senior year he can be the WAC 1st team guard that many thought he would be his junior year.

Jason,
You disappoint me.

I come here expecting news regarding Aggie recruiting and I come away with nothing.

I need some news I can't refuse.

Chilero, sorry for disappointing you, but I have reported things as I find them out and it's stil the same. As I've said three times now, my understanding is that two bigs have already verbally committed. If you want a timeline, I will add that I have learned two big men from Dallas are on campus this weekend and there is a combo guard coming on campus next week. I wanted to wait until i had names for you, but patience is waning on the blog. As Menzies was quoted, he is going to take his time filling this third scholarship and it appears he's true to his word

You are the Godfather of Aggie sports reporting.

Don Jason, I am honored and grateful that you have invited me to your home on the wedding day, I'm mean signing period of your daughter, er I mean favorite beat. And may the first Aggie recruit be a masculine big man.
